How a new President affects the Ohio State Football program
By Ryan Stano
There has been a lot going on around the Ohio State football program in the last few days. We all know that the Buckeyes lost their second-straight game to TTUN. We know that despite that, they still have a chance to make the College Football Playoff. Now, another major announcement was given.
Kristina Johnson, the President of The Ohio State University, has now resigned. She will stay on until the end of the academic year. According to the Columbus Dispatch, this was done because of an investigation into her conduct that was raised by concerns by her staff.
What those concerns are is unclear at the moment, but I’m sure we will learn what happened in the next few months. So how does this affect the Ohio State football program as the final CFP rankings are set to be released in just about a week?
For starters, Johnson was on the CFP board. That position will now go to someone else. As far as the team is concerned right now though, this decision doesn’t affect them too much. The play on the field has much more weight as to whether or not the Buckeyes can still steal a CFP spot.
As for the future of the program, that is more dictated by Ryan Day and Gene Smith. Maybe a new president would dictate that the Buckeyes would in fact host home playoff games in the future if they were awarded them. Perhaps they would let Smith continue to make those decisions.
Whatever the case, this has been a whirlwind last few days for those around Ohio State. We’ll see whether or not the Buckeyes can still salvage the season or just have 2022 leave a bad taste in their mouths like 2021 did. We’ll find out this weekend.
