Ohio State Football: These big changes need to happen
By Ryan Stano
2. The Ohio State football team needs a new approach to The Game
Day emphasized all year long how they spend all season preparing for The Game. He mentioned that everyone remembered all the pain that they had suffered in the 365 days since they lost in the Big House. Well, nothing changed. The same result happened on Saturday.
Ohio State needs a new approach to The Game. They absolutely should continue to prepare all year long, but they need to do it better. They need to implement philosophies that will be tailored to beating TTUN. That means changing their attitude.
Ohio State has been soft in the last two meetings, plain and simple. They haven’t been able to win the line of scrimmage, specifically on the offensive line in the run game. Day needs to get his team to be tougher in the trenches with an eye on this specific matchup at the end of the year.
The defensive line was actually pretty good for most of the game when it comes to stopping the run game. It wasn’t until late in the game when it was already decided that they started to break down. But they didn’t dominate either, and that’s something that can change too.
If Day continues to prepare for TTUN the same way he’s been doing it, he’s going to lose every time. The Buckeyes haven’t gotten results because he has refused to challenge his players’ toughness. Softness in the trenches won’t get the job done.
The final change that should be implemented has to do with recruiting.
