The Ohio State basketball team wanted to leave Maui 3-0. After losing their first game against San Diego State, that wasn’t going to happen. But they had a chance on Wednesday afternoon to make sure that they left 2-1 after taking on Texas Tech.

That’s exactly what they did. The Buckeyes played a complete game on both ends of the court for both halves and walked out with an 80-73 victory over the Red Raiders. Ohio State now moves to 5-1 on the season and picked up their first win over a ranked opponent.

Justice Sueing was simply sensational in this game. He was by far the best player on the court. He had a career-high 33 points on 12-19 shooting. Sueing added 8 rebounds, including 4 on the offensive end, 5 assists, and 2 steals. He was also 8-8 from the free-throw line. He played as complete of a game as you can.

Sean McNeil added 13 points as well, including going 4-4 from the free-throw line down the stretch. Good free-throw shooting was a theme for the entire team as they went a perfect 18-18 from the line. That was key in beating a tough Texas Tech squad.

Sharing the ball was also a key to winning. The Buckeyes had 15 assists on 27 made shots in this one. They were setting each other up for great looks all game long. It was the most impressive game that the Buckeyes have played this season thus far.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Ohio State basketball team. Once they get back to the lower 48, they have to take on Duke in Cameron Indoor as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. If they play anything like they did today, they have a chance to pull the upset.

I’m very impressed with what I saw today. This team might have a shot to make some actual noise in the Big Ten this year.
