Could Ohio State Football still make the CFP with loss to TTUN?
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is undefeated heading into The Game. They are ranked second in the country while TTUN is third. The Game is in the Shoe and will have College Football Playoff implications. Things have changed at the top of the CFP rankings though.
Fifth-ranked Tennesee got absolutely destroyed by South Carolina, so their CFP hopes are gone. Alabama and LSU already have two losses. TCU’s luck has to run out at some point. Is there a realistic chance that the loser of The Game still makes the College Football Playoff?
Obviously, a loss is not something that the Buckeyes are aiming for against Michigan. Ohio State is trying to avenge the loss they suffered last year at the hands of TTUN. It’s also the first of the goals that they can achieve. Even if they don’t achieve it, they might still make the CFP.
Here’s how the Ohio State football team can make the CFP with a loss to Michigan.
Let’s say the unthinkable happens and the Buckeyes lose to TTUN for the second straight year. At that point, the Buckeyes only need a few things to happen to still make the College Football Playoff. One of those things includes rooting for TTUN to win the Big Ten Championship.
Ohio State would also need Georgia to beat LSU in the SEC Championship Game. TCU would need to lose in one of their next two games, which looks doable considering they’ve barely won every game they’ve played. The last thing they would need is for USC to lose to Notre Dame or in the Pac-12 Championship.
If those things happen, then the Buckeyes could lose to Michigan and still make the College Football Playoff. It’s really not that far-fetched to see those things happen. Of course, this is just the worst-case scenario. Ohio State should still be able to bat TTUN.
Ohio State has one more week to prepare for this rivalry game. It’s going to be a great one.
