Coming into the season, safety was one of the biggest questions the Ohio State football team had to answer. It was one of the biggest problems for the team in 2021. Those questions were answered this season and Lathan Ransom is a huge reason why.

Ransom once again had a huge game on Saturday against Indiana. He had 9 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a blocked punt. He was all over the place making plays. Ransom has turned into not just one of the Ohio State football team’s best safeties, but one of their best defensive players.

Ransom had issues staying healthy earlier in his career. He’s been able to stay healthy this year and has shown what he is capable of doing. There’s a very good chance that he ends the year as an All-Big Ten selection at the end of the season because of how well he’s playing.

Ohio State’s chances to win the Big Ten and make the College Football Playoff very well could hinge on this defense. They have one more tough game to deal with in the regular season. That, of course, is TTUN in two weeks. Ohio State does still have to deal with Maryland, but that should be relatively easy.

How well Ransom and the rest of the defense are able to contain Michigan’s running attack could determine whether or not the Buckeyes are able to win that game and keep themselves in the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings. The defense has become a real asset.

Ransom will continue to play his butt off every snap he’s out there. As long as he is out on the field, he will keep making plays. Ohio State needs a playmaker in the secondary and that is exactly what Ransom has become.
