The Ohio State football team took care of business against Indiana 56-14 on Saturday afternoon. Ryan Day needs to clean up some play-calling issues.

The Ohio State football team looked good on Saturday afternoon in Columbus. Jim Knowles and the defense were stout again. Running back Miyan Williams looked good in the first half before his injury. C.J. Stroud did miss a few passes but overall was solid. And the receivers were running open all game.

The major problem with this team lies in third and short, fourth and short situations. Ryan Day has been adamant about being able to run the ball to pick up first downs and all season long they have been getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage. The offensive line is not getting the push when it’s needed.

It’s very disappointing. The same thing happened last season and for this Buckeye offense not to have been able to fix it 12 months later is nothing short of embarrassing, especially given the fact that this is pretty much the exact same offensive line. They should be better than this.

Ryan Day even admitted after the game to being stubborn about the play calling. This, from cleveland.com:

"“Probably – probably being stubborn there, probably” Day said. “But still, I still think we need to get better movement and we need to run harder. We need to get the first down.”"

We’re 10 games into this season. It’s time for Day to come to terms with who this Buckeye offense is. This is a pass-first offense. The offensive line is not getting it done in short-yardage situations. It’s time to pass the ball there.

Ohio State has one game left against Maryland before Michigan comes to Columbus. Next week, especially given the injury situation at running back, Day needs to install pass plays in short yardage so that the Buckeye offense is comfortable running them against the Wolverines.

If not, this could be the Buckeye’s downfall yet again.
