Ohio State Women’s basketball proves to be best team on campus
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State women’s basketball team opened their season last night at home against fifth-ranked Tennessee. Ohio State was ranked 14th themselves. That ranking will get higher after the Buckeyes knocked off the Lady Vols 87-75 after being down 12 points in the first half.
It was an 18-0 run in the third quarter that helped fuel the comeback for the Buckeyes. They really turned up their full-court press and forced Tennessee into several turnovers. In fact, Ohio State forced an incredible 29 turnovers. That’s an insane amount of turnovers for one game!
Taylor Mikesell got hot in the second half and started burying shots left and right. She finished the game with 25 points on 50% shooting and added two steals as well. She was the go-to scorer for the Buckeyes in the second half. No one played a better overall game than Jacy Sheldon though.
Sheldon was all over the court on both sides of the ball. On offense, she had 14 points and 7 assists. On defense, she had 4 rebounds and a whopping 8 steals. Sheldon was the best overall player on the court Tuesday night and really helped this team to a win.
I was in attendance at the game and I can say with much certainty that this is the best basketball team on campus. The women are much better than the men at this point. The Ohio State women’s basketball team is a true Final Four contender, while the men will struggle to make the NCAA Tournament.
If you want to watch some great basketball this season, head over to the Schott and check out these women. They play sound basketball and an exciting defensive game. The only thing they need to improve on is free-throw shooting. They were an abysmal 18-31 in this game.
This team is going to be really good yet again and I highly suggest tuning in to watch them on TV or seeing them in person this year.
