What the Ohio State football team’s CFP ranking means for November
By Ryan Stano
In the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season, the Ohio State football team was ranked second. While I made a case for them to be number one, two is not outrageous either. They were slotted one spot behind Tennessee, which has a win over Alabama.
So what does this number 2 ranking mean for the Buckeyes as we head into the November slate of games? The first thing it means is that they control their own destiny. All they have to do is keep winning and they will be in the CFP. They may even get that number one spot.
Secondly, Ohio State may have some margin for error. Because they are second, a loss may be able to be afforded, depending on when it is. If they beat Michigan but lose in the Big Ten Championship, they might still get in. It’s unlikely if they lose to Michigan though.
The Ohio State football team is in a good spot after the first CFP rankings.
Ohio State is sitting in a good spot after the first rankings. They should cruise in each of their next three games, leaving TTUN as their only true test left. Meanwhile, Tennessee and Georgia play each other this week, Clemson plays at Notre Dame, and Bama still has to face Ole Miss and LSU.
The Buckeyes can use these next three weeks to prepare themselves to take on TTUN. TTUN still has to play Illinois the week before they travel to Columbus and that’s not an easy win for them. The Illini can really run the ball well and look pretty good.
Nothing we saw on Tuesday night was really surprising. We knew Ohio State was going to be in the top four. They will stay there as long as they keep winning.
