Ohio State football: J.T. Tuimoloau named Player of the Week
By Ryan Stano
J.T. Tuimoloau was the number one recruit in the 2021 class. He was a late commit, not committing until the 4th of July of 2021. He chose the Ohio State football program and has played well since joining the team, but Saturday was by far his best game as a Buckeye.
Tuimoloau was making plays all over the field against Penn State. He made so many plays that he was named the National Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. His stats certainly warranted this decision because he was unreal.
Tuimoloau had six tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two interceptions including a pick-six, and a pass defended that ended up in a pick. He made some of the biggest plays of the game and was really the deciding player on the field.
This is where Tuimoloau starts to make a true impact on this team. He’s starting to come into his own as a sophomore. He still has another level that he can still reach. Larry Johnson has done a good job of working with him and getting him to the point of finally putting up some numbers.
Tuimoloau has been close to putting up some good numbers. He knew that his play was getting better and that the numbers were going to follow. He just had to keep putting in the work. Saturday was the result of that work and we saw just how good he has the potential to be.
Hopefully, we can see more games like this from JTT. If he has more games like that, this Ohio State football team is going to be extremely hard to beat.
