Ohio State football takes care of Iowa with ease
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team knew they were going to win their game against Iowa. It was just going to be a matter of by how much. Despite some tense first half moments, the game ended up being the blowout we all expected it to be.
Ohio State ended up winning the game 54-10 after a strong performance from the defense. They forced six turnovers and stopped Iowa on fourth down when they tried a fake punt. The very first play of the game was a Tanner McCalister interception.
The Buckeyes’ defense gave the offense a short field three times in the first half only to come up with field goals each time. The offense struggled for the entire first half, only accumulating 133 total yards. C.J. Stroud was out of sorts the entire half and opened the second half with a terrible interception.
Stroud was able to play much better in the second half though. He ended up finishing 20/30 for 286 and 4 touchdowns. His best throw was a beautiful 79-yard touchdown to Julian Fleming. It was the best part of the offense. Ohio State still scored 54 point anyway.
Zach Harrison may have had his best game as a Buckeye too. He had two sacks and forced a fumble, also having a key play on three third downs during the game. Tommy Eichenburg also had a pick-six. The defense really showed that they are good.
While the Ohio State football team won this game by a sizable margin, they showed they still have plenty of things to work on in order to be truly elite. The offense still has warts to work out. Jaxon Smith-Njigba got hurt again, which isn’t ideal.
Hopefully, they can have a good week of practice before the Buckeyes take on Penn State.
