Three reasons the Ohio State football team will win a National Championship
By Ryan Stano
3. The Ohio State football team protects the ball
If you put up a bunch of yards on offense and don’t let other teams score on your defense, usually the only way someone can beat you is because of turnovers. Turnovers can kill a team’s chances to win if they commit too many, especially in their own territory.
The Buckeyes don’t really do that either. They only have committed five turnovers in six games, tied for 18th best in the country. One of them was a fumble by JK Johnson after he recovered a fumble and another one was Emeka Egbuka muffing a punt against Rutgers.
The only three true turnovers have been interceptions from C.J. Stroud. Only two of them have resulted in points, and one of them was the pick-six by Michigan State last week. Simply put, the Buckeyes don’t beat themselves with turnovers. They protect the ball.
Any team that is looking to beat the Buckeyes has to try and force turnovers because of how good the offense is otherwise. Teams can’t keep up with them on the scoreboard, so they have to try to slow them down and take the ball away. Unfortunately for Ohio State’s opponents, no one has been able to do that.
I don’t think anyone is going to be able to do that the rest of the way either. The Buckeyes are a veteran group that knows the value of keeping the football. They won’t make mistakes to hurt themselves like that. Any great team usually wins the turnover margin.
For all of these reasons, I think that the Ohio State Buckeyes will win their first National Championship since 2014.
