Ohio State Football: Is it time to worry about the running backs?
The Ohio State football team dominated Michigan State on Saturday afternoon in East Lansing. The health of the Buckeyes’ top two running backs remains a concern.
The Ohio State football team took care of business against the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday 49-20. The offense was very efficient, quarterback C.J. Stroud was excellent, and the defense played solid in most aspects.
The major concern exiting Saturday’s victory was the health of the running back position. Miyan Williams sat out of the contest with an apparent knee injury. TreVeyon Henderson has been battling injuries all season long and exited early in this game after 19 carries for 118 yards with an injury.
Henderson’s injury doesn’t seem to concern head coach Ryan Day very much as he went on to say this, via Eleven Warriors:
"On a different day, he probably would’ve come back in."
That’s all well and good, but the fact remains with Williams now injured, the Buckeyes’ top two running backs can’t seem to stay healthy. And with games against Penn State and Michigan looming in the second half of the season, Ohio State will need both of them at top strength for what should be some smash-mouth football.
All this also comes on the heels of expected third back Evan Pryor going down in fall camp with a season-ending injury. I’m sure that Ryan Day doesn’t want to encounter a critical situation with true freshman Dallan Haden in at running back with the game on the line.
The Scarlet and Gray get a week off here as they enter their bye. Hopefully, Henderson and Williams get the rest that they need in order to be healthy for the final portion of the Buckeyes’ schedule.
