Ohio State football vs. Michigan State: 3 underrated players to watch
By Ryan Stano
Cody Simon should play a lot today for the Ohio State football team.
The top two linebackers for the Ohio State Buckeyes are Tommy Eichenberg and Steele Chambers. That is not a question right now. Both have been really good this year and have improved immensely from last year. Another linebacker has made a rapid improvement too.
That linebacker is Cody Simon. Simon may not be one of the starting linebackers, but he comes in when the Buckeyes bring a bigger package into the game. Simon is actually fifth on the team in tackles right now despite not being on the field for every snap.
This is the type of game that Simon should get to see a lot of snaps. It’s a game that the Buckeyes should have control of from the moment it kicks off. Simon will probably be in a lot because the Buckeyes will want to stop the run and force them to pass instead.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Simon had a six-tackle game or something like that. He has proven to be a solid linebacker which is more than he looked last season. He will also be out there when Ryan Day starts to pull some of the starters in the second half and that should help his numbers.
Simon is a valuable member of this team. They are going to need him against the likes of Maryland, Penn State, and TTUN. He runs to the ball really well. The last player I’m keeping an eye on in today’s game is someone who’s started to come alive in the last couple of games.
