Two Big Ten coaches have already gotten canned this season, including one just two weeks after the Ohio State football team beat him. Who’s the next to go?

The Ohio State football team may have ended Paul Chryst’s time in Madison with a 52-21 thrashing two weeks ago in Ohio Stadium. Chryst was let go Sunday as head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers after eight seasons at the helm. This follows Nebraska’s decision to fire Scott Fost earlier this season.

This has people around the Big Ten wondering who’s next to get canned at their respective schools. Truth be told, there are not a lot of options left.

Purdue cannot do better than Jeff Brohm and they shouldn’t even try. Brett Bielema just got to Illinois and knocked off Wisconsin last weekend. Mel Tucker got a fat contract extension at Michigan State and Jim Harbaugh is safe at Michigan.

Greg Schiano will be at Rutgers as long as he wants to be, and Mike Locksley appears to have the Maryland Terrapins headed in the right direction.

The only real candidate left to possibly get fired is Tom Allen at Indiana. It’s my prediction that he is the next Big Ten coach to get fired. After being the golden coach during the 2020 campaign, Allen seems to have lost his mojo after an awful 2-10 season in 2021. Allen and Indiana started 3-0 in 2022 only to have lost its last two games to Cincinnati and a pretty bad Nebraska team.

Four of Indiana’s next five games are against Michigan, Maryland, Penn State, and Ohio State. Rutgers is sandwiched in-between but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Hoosiers could go 0-5 in that stretch.

Which should be, and would be, unacceptable for an Indiana program that hoped to be relevant in football again. Look for Tom Allen to be the next Big Ten coach let go by season’s end.
