Former Ohio State football player is NFL’s most dangerous rookie
By Ryan Stano
There are plenty of Ohio State football players playing at the next level. One of them is the league’s most dangerous rookie right now.
No program has more first-round picks than the Ohio State football program. They have had a whopping 85 first-rounders in their history. They had three receivers taken back-to-back-to-back in this past year’s first round if you still count Jameson Williams as a Buckeye.
Garrett Wilson was expected to be the best of the three and still might be. He’s proven to be really good already for the New York Jets. No rookie has been more dangerous though than Chris Olave, receiver for the New Orleans Saints. He’s been better than they hoped for.
Olave has emerged as the de facto number one receiver for the Saints in the past couple of weeks with Jarvis Landry and former Buckeye Michael Thomas dealing with injuries. Thomas missed last week completely while Landry was largely ineffective for New Orleans.
In the game in London against the Vikings, Olave caught his first NFL touchdown pass. He finished the game with 4 catches for 67 yards and that score. The week before that he had 9 catches for 147 yards. On the season he has 21 catches for 335 yards and 1 touchdown.
Olave has the most receiving yards of any rookie in the league. In fact, he’s got the 9th-most receiving yards in the entire league. Olave has proven to be an effective weapon in the NFL, just as he was for the Buckeyes for four years. It’s been great to see him impact the game so quickly.
He’s just getting started too. There’s no reason that the former Buckeye can’t continue to be great. He has all the tools to be a true number one at the NFL level for a long time.
