When the Ohio State football team took on Rutgers on Saturday, the game was never close. After Rutgers took a quick 7-0 lead, the Buckeyes were able to dominate the rest of the game. They won the game 49-10 and were up by that margin late in the fourth quarter.

In that quarter, Jesse Mirco attempted a fake punt and ran for a first down. After he ran out of bounds, he got blasted by a Rutgers player and both teams started going at it. Ryan Day went out to break it up, as did Rutgers coach Greg Schiano. Then things got even more heated.

Schiano started yelling at Day and Day went right back at him. Both coaches said afterward that they were just protecting their players and that there was no animosity towards the other coach. You can see how heated things got in the clip below.

Ohio State football fans loved that Day went right back at Schiano and took to social media to show how happy they were that the leader of the Buckeyes did that.

I do think it was cool to see Day defend his players, even if he probably wasn’t thrilled that Mirco decided on his own to go for it on fourth-down of a blowout game. At the same time, Schiano should have coached his team better to be prepared for that sort of thing.

Either way, I don’t think this will have any lasting effects into next year. These programs are at different levels and these coaches still have a massive amount of respect for each other.
