Prediction 2: Ohio State registers three picks

One of the staples of defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ defenses at Oklahoma State was the turnovers. Knowles loves creating ways to get the ball back in the hands of his offense. To this point, the Buckeyes have not done much of that.

With only two interceptions and three total turnovers so far, I think the Buckeyes come out on Saturday with the idea of creating havoc for whoever the opposing quarterback is.

Let’s talk about that for a second. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have had a mess at the position so far the season. Starter Noah Vedral has missed the first four games due to injury and isn’t expected to be back for this game. Freshman Gavin Wimsatt was next in line but suffered an injury against Temple and hasn’t played that well when in.

That leaves us with expected starter Evan Simon who did throw for 300 yards against Iowa last week but also threw two picks and lost a fumble. Simon threw the ball 49 times in that game.

I expect that again in this one as I believe Ohio State will be out to a comfortable lead, forcing Simon to throw the ball. And that should spell an opportunity for the Buckey secondary. I’m predicting three interceptions by the game’s end.
