Ohio State football fans are passionate. They always have been and always will be. Since there is no pro football or basketball team in Columbus, fans get behind Ohio State athletics. That’s something that will never change. Fans travel to watch their Buckeyes too.

In fact, no one travels better than Ohio State football fans. According to a survey of 68 former FBS football players from 2001-2021 performed by Goodyear and the Players’ Tribune, Ohio State was identified as having the fans that travel the best for away and neutral site games.

This comes as no surprise. Whenever Ohio State is in the Big Ten Championship Game, it’s usually 70% Buckeye fans in the stands. Same goes for whatever bowl game they play. Former players clearly noticed the impact that you, the fans, have on the game.

Ohio State was also named as one of the toughest environments to play in for opposing players. They landed in a three-way tie for fourth with TTUN and Texas. The only teams ahead of them were Penn State, LSU, and Oregon.

Columbus was also named the fourth-most challenging college town to travel to. Former players cited the distance to the opposing city as the reason for this. Columbus sits behind Pullman, Washington, Auburn, Alabama, and Columbia, Missouri.

That one I don’t quite understand. Columbus is in the middle of the state of Ohio and has a major airport in it. It seems pretty easy to get to in my view. What this does tell me is that opponents hate coming to Columbus because they are pretty sure they are going to get beat.

Ohio State football fans are rabid. Former players of the last 20 years clearly recognize that passion. It’s not something that’s going to go away anytime soon either, especially if the Buckeyes win the national title this year.
