Ohio State football: C.J. Stroud top QB on draft boards
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is killing it on offense right now. Ryan Day deserves a lot of credit for it with his play design and play calling. His schemes help get players wide open. But someone has to make the throws to those players, and that man is C.J. Stroud.
Stroud has played masterfully so far this season. Stroud has 1,222 yards passing as well as 16 touchdowns and just 1 interception. His QBR is a 95.4 out of a 100. He’s completing 70.5% of his passes too through these first four games and doing this all without his best weapon.
Because of the skills he’s shown the past two years, he is the top quarterback on many draft boards. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper, both of ESPN, have Stroud as their top quarterback in the draft right now. Both Ryan Wilson and Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports do too.
He seems to be the consensus number top quarterback in college football right now and is a leading candidate to be the number one pick in the 2023 Draft depending on which team finishes with the first pick. Stroud is that good of a player right now.
Coming up soon, we’re going to see just how much Stroud has improved as a quarterback. He plays his first game on the road next week against Michigan State. At the end of October, he takes on Penn State in Happy Valley. Then, he finishes the regular season against TTUN at the Shoe.
Those three games will dictate whether or not he’s able to stay as the top quarterback in the 2023 Draft. His ability to fit the ball into tight windows while in the pocket and on the move is what makes him so enticing to scouts.
Stroud isn’t focused on any of that right now. He is just focused on beating Rutgers this weekend.
