Ohio State football: Defense impressing recruits
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is still trying to round out their 2023 recruiting class. They are trying to do so by grabbing some really good defensive recruits. The Buckeyes are doing their best by putting together some much-improved defensive efforts from a year ago.
Recruits are taking note. After hosting a bunch of impressed recruits for the Notre Dame game, more visited this past weekend for Wisconsin. Many of them walked away impressed with what they saw from this Jim Knowles defense. That’s a really good sign.
The Ohio State football team impressed while being down several players
Ohio State had to play Wisconsin while down their three top corners. They ended up only having three scholarship cornerbacks available in that game. No matter. The Buckeyes still only allowed just 104 yards through the air. That’s extremely impressive.
Sure, Wisconsin isn’t great at throwing the ball. That doesn’t matter though. To throw two freshmen out there who hadn’t played much in their careers against some solid receivers and see them perform at a high level is extremely impressive.
Ohio State is hoping to get more defensive linemen and defensive backs in this class. Prospects from both position groups were in attendance for this game. The Buckeyes had both position groups play extremely well against a stout offensive line.
I’d be surprised if Ohio State didn’t get some commitments from some prospects soon. Signing Day is still a few months away, but several recruits have the Buckeyes high on their lists. Ryan Day is looking to capitalize on the good play from the defense and seal these recruits up.
We’ll obviously keep you aware of any recruits that do give their commitments to the Buckeyes. They could be landing some five-star recruits soon after that bludgeoning of the Badgers.
