The Ohio State football team was able to beat Wisconsin on Saturday night. Here are three takeaways from the game.

The Ohio State football team dominated Wisconsin 52-21 on Saturday night. It was a great game that showcased everything that the Buckeyes wanted to do. It was a strong game by the offense and a spirited effort by a depleted defense that had to deal with injuries.

This was the third home night game in four weeks for the Buckeyes. The atmosphere was great and that also helped Ohio State out. They wore their alternate black uniforms and there was a blackout in the stadium to make the atmosphere even more challenging for the Badgers.

There are three takeaways from this game that jump out at me right away. Prior to the season, I predicted that this would be where Ohio State stumbled. Clearly, I was wrong about that. This team is truly elite and is focused on winning every single game.

The first takeaway I have concerns how good the defense has been.

1. The Ohio State football team has a legit defense now.

We all saw how bad the defense was for the Buckeyes a year ago. It was the unit that kept Ohio State from winning the Big Ten and playing in the College Football Playoff. It was clear that there needed to be changes in the offseason with that unit.

Ryan Day went ahead and made those changes, and what a world of difference that has made. Jim Knowles has come in and improved the defense right away. A new scheme has brought out some solid defensive performances this season, including on Saturday night.

Despite being without their three top corners, Ohio State allowed just 104 yards passing. Wisconsin’s passing game isn’t great by any means, but that is still massively impressive. Last year’s team wouldn’t have been able to do that, even with how bad Graham Mertz is.

Ohio State’s defense isn’t great, but they don’t have to be. They have been above average to good so far this season. Because the offense is truly elite, that’s all this defense has to be in order for this team to be true contenders for the national championship.

My second takeaway from the Wisconsin game has to deal with Ohio State’s elite offense.
