How Ohio State football matches up with Wisconsin
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is getting ready to host their first Big Ten game of the season. Wisconsin comes to the Shoe in search of a season-defining win over the Buckeyes. It will be yet another night game, with the game kicking off at 7:30 pm.
Wisconsin comes into the game 2-1 with a loss at home against Washington State. That loss tells us that this team isn’t quite the threat I thought they were before the season started. Nonetheless, they are still a team that can’t be taken lightly.
The Badgers have the 8th-best scoring defense in the country, only allowing 8 points per game. They have the 11th-best defense in terms of total yards allowed as well, allowing just 246 yards per game. This will be the best offense they will face all season though.
Ohio State was able to do whatever it wanted against Toledo. They had over 750 yards of offense against the Rockets and were never stopped. This will be the toughest defense that the Buckeyes have faced all season though. Running the ball is going to be key for them.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Ohio State football team needs to stop the run. The Badgers have always been famous for their running game. While they aren’t quite at the top in terms of rush yards per game, they are still in the top 25. Ohio State has to make them a pass-first team.
If the Buckeyes want to win this game, they have to keep the Badgers from running the clock down on them. Wisconsin’s gameplan is going to be to shorten the game and minimize the number of possessions the Buckeyes can have by controlling the clock with the run game.
I expect the Buckeyes will be able to handle the Badgers this weekend. Their offense is too good. I’ll give an official prediction later.
