Ohio State football team has the number one offense in the country
By Ryan Stano
We knew that the strength of the Ohio State football team in 2022 was going to be their offense. With C.J. Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and TreVeyon Henderson all returning, we knew this offense had the chance to be special again. The Buckeyes have not disappointed three games into the season.
Right now, they have the number one offense in the country. They average 565.3 yards per game. That average was undoubtedly helped by a 763-yard performance against Toledo over the weekend. That was the first weekend in which we saw the offense clicking on all cylinders.
Ohio State is 7th in passing yards per game with 358.3. Those types of numbers have helped Stroud get back into the Heisman race. The Buckeyes also lead the nation in touchdown passes with 12 so far. They are also one of five FBS teams to not have turned the ball over yet.
What’s so surprising about what they are doing is that they have done all of this without Smith-Njigba contributing much. He only has 4 catches for 36 yards so far this season. He’s arguably the best player on this Ohio State football team and he hasn’t even gotten going yet.
Ohio State should continue to produce big numbers like this all season. They really only play two more hard games this season, although this week’s game is no cakewalk against Wisconsin. The Badgers have the 11th-best defense in the country coming into this week.
As long as Stroud is healthy, this Ohio State team should continue to put up video game-like numbers. There’s not a team that can stop them from being great in the entire country. They’ve shown that early. Now it’s time to show that against conference opponents.
