The Ohio State football team needs to force some turnovers.
Turnovers can either help you win a game or lose a game. If your defense can force some, there’s a great chance you win. If you commit too many turnovers on offense, you can lose. While the Ohio State football team has yet to commit a turnover this year, they’ve also yet to force one.
Jim Knowles didn’t seem overly concerned with his defense’s lack of turnovers in his press conference yesterday. He seems to think that if they keep doing what they are doing, the turnovers will come. I tend to agree, but I’d also like to see them get a bit more aggressive.
Through two games, I’ve noticed the defensive backs failing to turn their heads when the ball has been thrown. This was a nasty trend the Buckeyes developed midway through Urban Meyer’s tenure as coach. It’s not as bad as it was then but it needs to be corrected.
I think the Buckeyes can force some turnovers in this game. There could be some blitzes that they come with that they haven’t put on film yet. Obviously, Ohio State doesn’t need to force turnovers to beat a team like Toledo, but they will need to do so to beat better teams on their schedule.
Mike Hall has a good chance to force a fumble up front because he has been all over the quarterback in the first two games. He’s been the most impressive player on the defensive line so far and I expect that to continue on Saturday night.
The final key for the Buckeyes to win on Saturday has to do with their mindset.
