Could Ohio State football get some Notre Dame recruits?

It has been a rough start to the season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. After losing the opener to the Ohio State football team, they got beat on Saturday at home by Marshall. It leaves Marcus Freeman as 0-3 to start his head coaching career, as he also lost the Fiesta Bowl last season.

Starting 0-2 is never good. Starting 0-2 as a brand new head coach is even worse. Notre Dame had been doing well on the recruiting trail heading into this season. That has significantly cooled in recent weeks, including losing the number one edge guy in the entire class.

Is there a chance that the Ohio State football program could swoop in and take some recruits as Notre Dame slides? Keon Keeley, the edge guy who de-committed already visited Columbus to start the season. He could be someone the Buckeyes are able to steal.

Christian Gray, a four-star cornerback, visited Ohio State back in June before ultimately committing to Notre Dame in July. He could be someone the Buckeyes target. He did tweet that he was “100,000,000% locked in” a couple of days ago, but things change rapidly if a program keeps losing games as Notre Dame did on Saturday.

Brenan Vernon, a four-star defensive lineman from Mentor, OH, is another guy they could target. Everyone thought he was going to pick Ohio State, but he decided to commit to Notre Dame. He might be the prime guy to flip if anyone else decides to de-commit.

None of the recruits have let anything slip in terms of their thinking, but I wouldn’t be shocked if some of these guys see what’s happening with Notre Dame and start to re-think things. Another loss could be disastrous for them and could be the Ohio State football program’s gain.
