Three Ohio State football players to watch vs. Arkansas State
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is now in Week 2 after a rousing season-opening win against Notre Dame. This week they take on a much easier opponent in the Red Wolves. This is a week where you could see some faces getting snaps in the second half.
Even so, there are still plays that need to be made in this game and certain players need to make plays more than others. Even after beating the fifth-ranked team in the country, the Buckeyes still fell a spot in the polls to number three. Clearly, style points matter in the polls.
This is a week where they can amass some style points against a team that is completely overmatched when it comes to talent. This is the easiest game on Ohio State’s schedule, so it’s good it comes right after what might end up being the hardest.
There are three players that I have my eye on this week. These are all guys with something to prove this week. Since the question is whether or not the Buckeyes will win, but by how much, I think this is a much more interesting way to approach things this week.
The first player I’m watching may have secured a starting spot after last week’s performance.
Lathan Ransom might now be a starter for the Ohio State football team.
No player had a better week against Notre Dame in the secondary than Lathan Ransom. After getting subbed in for Josh Proctor following the first drive of the game, Ransom responded. He wound up recording 7 tackles and was all over the field.
I would expect Ransom to start this game as he might have stolen Proctor’s job. This is a game in which he can solidify himself as the starter moving forward if he can have another solid effort. Now that he’s fully healthy, he can showcase his talent after having a monster off-season.
Proctor is another guy to keep an eye on, although I won’t include him on this list. I want to see how many snaps he gets and how well he does in those snaps. He might have played himself out of a job after that terrible start to last week’s game.
If Ransom plays like he did in Week 1, he will be one of the starting safeties for the rest of the season. The next player I’m watching is on the defensive line.
