The Ohio State football team was expected to beat Notre Dame pretty handily. They were 17-point favorites and were expected to pull away in the second half. The first half didn’t look good, but it didn’t matter in the end.

The Buckeyes were able to survive 21-10 despite trailing at halftime. The offense looked overmatched in the first half, but they were able to turn it around in the second half. It was a solid win against a top-five team to start the 2022 season.

Ohio State threw for 223 yards despite being without their best wide receiver. Jaxon Smith-Njigba got hurt in the first quarter and was a non-factor. He had an injury and that gave Xavier Johnson an opportunity, and boy did he make the most of it.

Johnson had a touchdown catch after replacing JSN. He was just put on scholarship this year after being a walk-on. He definitely earned that scholarship tonight, scoring a touchdown and then immediately getting a tackle on the ensuing kickoff. It was the best possible game for him to start the season.

It didn’t matter. C.J. Stroud threw for two touchdowns and Miyan Williams ran for another one to give the Buckeyes just enough to win the game. Even though the Ohio State football team didn’t cover, they still won. That’s all that matters at this point in the season.

Hopefully, Ohio State can improve their offense next week when they take on Arkansas State. If they want to make the College Football Playoff they have to be better on the offensive side of the ball. That’s something I didn’t think I’d have to say at all this season. Yet, here we are,.

I bet the Buckeyes get it figured out before the Big Ten portion their schedule starts.
