The Ohio State football team opens up its 2022 season on Saturday night against one of the toughest opponents they will face all season in Notre Dame. It’s a matchup of two top-five teams that will have everyone on the edge of their seats.

It’s a game that could be decided by just a few plays, so both teams want to be at full strength. As far as the Ohio State football team is concerned, they will mostly be at full strength. Evan Pryor is out for the year and Kamryn Babb has a knee injury, but neither figured to play much in this game anyway.

The cornerback injuries that happened earlier in camp don’t seem to be a factor now. Ryan Day says they should be ready to go come Saturday. That’s good news because Jordan Hancock looked really good this summer and is expected to get a lot of playing time.

Notre Dame, on the other hand, is not nearly as healthy. We told you about the fact they lost their senior receiver to a torn ACL a few weeks ago. Starting offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson is still questionable with a knee injury. Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said he hasn’t been a full participant in practice, so it truly is questionable at this point.

Another receiver, Jayden Thomas, has been dealing with an injury as well. He looks like he’s going to suit up, but that’s not a certainty. He’s been dealing with a hamstring injury and those can linger. I wouldn’t be shocked if he missed this game too, but Freeman will keep that close to the vest.

The receiver issues are real for the Irish. The Buckeyes are healthy with their starters, so they have a bit of an advantage. It should still be a fun night in Columbus in just over 48 hours.
