Ohio State football opener a big game for recruiting
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has a huge opener against Notre Dame next weekend. The Buckeyes are favored to win the game, but that doesn’t mean that they will. Games are fought on the field and not on paper. This game on the field is important, but not just for this year.
There will be a lot of recruits at the game. The Ohio State football program will be on display for plenty of top recruits that the Buckeyes want on their campus in the next couple of years. How they show campus off, and how they show on the field, will go a long way towards achieving that goal.
A win for the Buckeyes will give them the upper hand at landing a lot of these recruits. Some of these recruits are still considering Notre Dame as well. Even the ones who aren’t considering the Fighting Irish are still very important. A loss doesn’t keep the recruits from considering Ohio State either, but a win is preferred.
How the opener goes will affect the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes a great deal. These are the two premier football programs in the Midwest. The winner of the opener gets a good head start on recruiting in this part of the country.
Ohio State will be a big draw this weekend. There will be a lot of influential people in Columbus. An Ohio State victory would be great for 2022 and beyond as well. It very well could be, aside from a victory in a National Championship Game, the most important win in the season.
