Ohio State football: Why you should care about Week 0
By Ryan Stano
Tomorrow there is college football on. You heard me. Tomorrow, college football will be played! Not Ohio State football, they don’t play until next week. But that doesn’t matter. There will be Big Ten football on tomorrow, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
You may be saying, “Ohio State isn’t playing, why should I care?”. That’s a valid point. The Buckeyes aren’t playing until next Saturday and there aren’t that many compelling matchups on in Week 0 either. So why should you watch some football this weekend? Let me tell you.
First of all, it’s football. It’s football that matters. It’s not the preseason in the NFL. These games actually matter to these teams. What happens this week defines seasons. It can help propel a team to an exciting or depressing season. It all starts with a Week 0 matchup.
Secondly, we have a Big Ten matchup going on. Northwestern takes on Nebraska at 12:30 pm on FOX. Northwestern is a team that the Ohio State football team takes on later this year. You can get an early look at what the Wildcats will look like when the Buckeyes take them on in November.
This game is also in Dublin, Ireland. That’s kind of cool! It will be interesting to see how filled the stands are in a foreign country to watch to college football teams from the Midwest. If Nebraska loses this game, Scott Frost’s seat could start to smolder.
There is also another Big Ten team in action this week too. That team is Illinois. While Ohio State doesn’t have them on its schedule this year, it’s still fun to watch another conference team battle early in the year.
So there you have it. You should check these games out. You may not be locked in as you would for a Buckeye game, but college football is finally back! It’s time we celebrated.
