The Ohio State football team has some really nice recruits in the 2023 class. In that class, they have several four-stars and one five-star right now. Three of those four-star recruits are at the safety position. One of those safeties had a viral moment on social media last night.

That safety is Malik Hartford, a safety out of Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio. He played his first high school game of the season yesterday, as did every other team in the state of Ohio. In that game, he had a thunderous hit that made the rounds on social media.

As you can see in that clip, it was a massive hit. He did get flagged for the hit, although I’m not sure what the penalty call was. I’m not familiar enough with the high school rules in Ohio to know if he got flagged for a hit on a defenseless receiver or not. Not sure if that’s a rule in high school.

What I do know is that Hartford showed great instincts to break up that pass with a hit like that. If he can bring that physicality and make hits like that in college, legally of course, then he has a bright future with the Buckeyes. He is the safety that I think has the highest ceiling in this class.

It’s good to see future Ohio State football players make plays like that the year before they get on campus. I’m sure other future Buckeyes will have plays like that this year at the high school level. This recruiting class is still pretty talented.
