Ohio State Football: Terry McLaurin shares interesting Urban Meyer story
By Ryan Stano
Former Ohio State football player Terry McLaurin just got a big contract extension with the Washington Commanders. It’s certainly an extension he’s earned. He’s clearly established himself as a number one receiver in the NFL despite having terrible quarterback play around him.
McLaurin has made a huge leap in his football career. He was a three-star recruit coming out of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis to being a number one receiver in the NFL. He told an interesting story today about Urban Meyer and how he got his Ohio State offer.
While being on an episode of Pardon My Take, he was asked if it was true that Meyer told him he couldn’t catch and had no hands. McLaurin went on to say that wasn’t exactly true, but that Meyer wasn’t sold on his ability to catch the ball consistently.
Meyer told him that the Buckeyes loved his speed, his character as a person, and his work ethic. They told him to come back in a couple of weeks and work out with them again after catching 200 balls a day to improve his hands in front of the coaches.
Well, McLaurin did just that and earned his offer. He went on to have a solid Ohio State football career, catching 75 passes for 1,251 yards and 19 touchdowns over the course of his career. Now he’s a great young player in the NFL.
You can listen to that story in the clip below.
It’s cool that McLaurin did exactly what Meyer said and was motivated to get that Ohio State offer. It obviously worked out for him. He got to win a national championship and play for one of the greatest college football coaches of all time.
Expect McLaurin to continue to do great things in the NFL.
