The Ohio State football team has the premier game of Week 1 when Notre Dame comes to town in early September. The Buckeyes and Fighting Irish will both be top ten in the polls and will likely be top 5 when the AP Poll comes out. It seems Notre Dame might be in some trouble for that game though.

It seems that the Fighting Irish are having problems with their receiving corp when it comes to injuries. Their captain and starting receiver Avery Davis has suffered a torn ACL. That leaves the Fighting Irish dangerously thin at the receiver position just a few weeks before the season.

Now the Irish only have five healthy scholarship receivers. Two of them have never caught a pass and another only has four career catches. That means that the receivers for them have almost no experience heading into a season-opener against one of the best teams in the country.

While you never want to see injuries happen to any team, this is good news for the Ohio State football team. The Irish are already breaking in a new starting quarterback. Adding issues with receiver to the list helps a defense that struggled mightily a year ago.

The Buckeye defense has a new system in place. The first game of the year will show us how well they’ve learned it and how well it will work. With Notre Dame being thin at receiver, it makes the transition a lot easier for the defense and puts less pressure on them as well. It helps the fact that the Buckeyes are having issues at corner too.

Notre Dame is still a good program and will have plenty of talent. The Buckeyes won’t have an easy game even with the Irish suffering issues at a skill position. If Ohio State thinks they can take it easy now, they are dead wrong about that.
