Ohio State football: Offensive line needs more improvement
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team didn’t have their offensive line play its best when they needed them to. In both of the losses that the Buckeyes had, they weren’t able to run the ball in critical scenarios. Fall camp is supposed to help them with that.
Based on reports coming out of camp, things haven’t been improving fast enough. New offensive line coach Justin Frye reportedly gave some firey instruction after the offensive line wasn’t playing up to their standards in yesterday’s practice. Frye was not happy with what he had seen.
Before the season starts, you would think that the offensive line would be better than what they are at this point. It’s a little unsettling to hear that they are still struggling at this juncture. We’ve known what the starting lineup is going to be for months.
The offensive line is the biggest concern for the Ohio State football team on the offensive side of the ball. Every other position has talent and proven talent at that. If the offensive line doesn’t hold up its end of the bargain again though, the Buckeyes won’t win a national title.
It’s going to take some time for Frye to get his message across to the current players. This is just his first year in Columbus. I would expect the offensive line to improve each week as the season goes on. The problem is that the Buckeyes play a top-five team right out of the gate.
We’ll see how the offensive line is able to improve between now and September 3rd. My guess is that Ryan Day and his staff is doing everything that they can to help get the line where they need to be before the Fighting Irish come into The Shoe.
I have faith that the offensive line can be good this year. They just need to show everyone else that as well.
