Three recruits on top of the Ohio State football program’s board

The Ohio State football program can’t get too many edge guys.

Even though Matayo is the number one target left for the Buckeyes, he isn’t the only edge guy that they are hot on. They are also looking to get Desmond Umeozulu. Umeozulu is a four-star edge guy from Maryland. He’s the 20th-best edge guy in the country.

Umeozulu, unlike Matayo, has a firm commitment date set. He is set to commit on August 29th, just a few days before Ohio State’s season-opener against Notre Dame. He is down to a final three. Besides Ohio State, he is considering North Carolina and South Carolina.

The Buckeyes would love to land Umeozulu. Even though he’s not as highly-touted as Matayo, he’s still a pretty good prospect. He has a chance to be really good with some proper coaching. No one is better at coaching defensive linemen than Larry Johnson.

Umeozulu’s decision might ultimately influence Matayo’s. If Umeozulu does pick Ohio State, he would be the first edge guy that they have for the 2023 class. He would also be their third defensive lineman. I doubt Matayo would think that’s too many, but you never know.

It seems like Umeozulu will be coming to Columbus based on 247Sports’ prediction. You never know though, and we’ll find out in just over two weeks exactly where he is going to go. The final player on this list is someone the Buckeyes just got projected to land.
