The Ohio State football program hasn’t put the finishing touches on its 2023 recruiting class quite yet. They still have a few months to add a handful of players to the class. Even so, there are still 19 commits to the class right now. I think one of them is most poised to make an immediate impact on the team.

While the only five-star recruit in the class is a wide receiver, I don’t think he’s going to make an immediate impact. That room is loaded with talent already. I think the player that has a chance to do some things right away is actually the best offensive lineman in the class.

That player is Luke Montgomery. He’s a tackle from Findlay and is the best tackle from the state of Ohio. He’s a four-star prospect that has a lot of upside. Montgomery stayed at home despite offers from the likes of Clemson, Auburn, and Alabama just to name a few.

There’s a pretty good chance that the Buckeyes are going to have to replace 4/5 of the offensive line after this year, including both tackles. While he is a converted tight end and hasn’t blocked on the offensive line for long, all of the physical tools are there to be great.

I don’t think Montgomery will start as a freshman but I could see him getting snaps in blowouts. As a sophomore is when I think he could make his move into the starting lineup. Once he has a full year of college coaching under his belt, he can use that development to get himself on the field.

Next. A look at where the 2023 recruiting class stands. dark

The Buckeyes need solid offensive linemen. Winning in the trenches is how you win games against tough opponents. The Ohio State football team believes Montgomery can do that for them in the long run.
