Ohio State Football gets first linebacker recruit of 2023
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has done a good job in recruiting for the most part. They had a swoon at the beginning of August that hurt the Buckeyes when they lost two recruits to a de-commitment. Since then Ryan Day has done a good job turning things around.
First, they are projected to land a four-star safety. Now, the Buckeyes actually were able to get a recruit today. They landed their first linebacker of the 2023 class. Who did they get? They got Arvell Reese, a four-star linebacker out of Cleveland Glenville High School.
Reese stands at 6’3 and 215 pounds. Before this upcoming season, he had previously attended Euclid. He’s an Ohio boy through and through and it looks like he’ll be staying in Ohio for college as well after choosing the Ohio State football program.
As far as I can tell, Reese does a pretty good job not missing tackles in space. He also is decent in coverage, but his main thing is stopping the run. Based on the film I’ve seen, he’s able to get downhill quickly and identify the ball carrier so he can bring him down.
Reese was the last remaining high-priority target for the Buckeyes in the state of Ohio. Now that they have him, they will mostly focus on other states around the country. The Buckeyes are a national brand, so they have pull no matter where they recruit.
It’s good to see Ohio State finally get a linebacker for this class. I was wondering if they were going to be able to land a good one at this stage. They have now in Reese. Reese gives the Buckeyes 19 commits once again for this class. They will look to add six of seven more recruits for this class.
Ryan Day isn’t done on the recruiting trail by any stretch of the imagination. He is looking to land some more prospects soon.
