Ohio State basketball in final five for local recruit

The Ohio State basketball program has been focused on the state of Ohio in recruiting for the 2023 class. All of Chris Holtmann’s recruits are from the state of Ohio. He’s clearly made it a large priority to recruit the state and keep the talent from going elsewhere.

After landing Devin Royal a few days ago, the Buckeyes are in the top five for another local recruit. This time, the recruit is Dailyn Swain out of Columbus. He is a 6’6 170-pound small forward out of Africentric. He narrowed his choice to five schools today.

Swain narrowed his choices to Ohio State, Xavier, Clemson, Arizona State, and Arkansas. As you can tell, that’s all over the map. He clearly isn’t limiting himself geographically when it comes to those schools. He is going to make his final decision sometime soon.

As far as what kind of player Swain is, he’s got some potential. He’s a four-star kid and is the third-ranked player in the state of Ohio. While he’s fairly skinny right now, he should continue to grow into his body. That will help him finish inside stronger.

Swain does have a nice shooting stroke based on what I’ve seen. He just needs to keep getting better. If Swain were to commit to the Buckeyes, that would give Holtmann his fourth commitment of the class. It would also mean he’s landed four of the top five prospects from the state of Ohio.

Holtmann’s great recruiting is likely what has saved his job. The Ohio State basketball program hasn’t been able to have a lot of postseason success. Holtmann is trying his best to change that. How well the freshman from the 2022 class play will determine how far they go.

We’ll see what Swain ultimately decides in terms of his school choice.
