The Ohio State football team started its first practice of Fall camp today. It’s the first time that we get to see who could be in line for significant snaps once the games kick off next month. It’s early, but it’s a good time to project who could be first on the depth chart at each position.

For the Buckeyes, they have a lot of experience coming back this year on offense. Most of these guys have seen significant snaps over the last few years. That helps this team’s ceiling as potential national title contenders once it’s all said and done.

The defense is a little more questionable. We know how much they need to improve for this team to get where it wants to go. There will be some new faces on that defense when it comes to significant snaps. That’s the more interesting part of the depth chart in my opinion.

First, we take a look at the first-team depth chart on the offensive side of the ball. A lot of these guys are familiar to you as they are returning starters from a year ago.

This is the Ohio State football team’s projected starters on offense

QB: C.J. Stroud

RB: TreVeyon Henderson

WR: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Julian Fleming, Marvin Harrison Jr.

TE: Joe Royer

T: Paris Johnson Jr., Dawand Jones

G: Donovan Jackson, Matt Jones,

C: Luke Wypler

The offensive line is pretty much set in stone at this point. Johnson Jr. swinging out to left tackle makes a lot of sense. He was recruited as one of the top tackles in the country and should be pretty good out there. Wypler returns as the starting center, and Matt Jones gets his first opportunity to start.

Tight end is the one question mark still out there. I project Royer there, although Gee Scott Jr. has a shot to overtake him. The Buckeyes will mostly be in three-receiver sets anyway. For that matter, I put Fleming ahead of Emeka Egbuka because he’s finally healthy.

The defensive depth chart gets a lot more interesting in my mind.
