Ohio State Football coaches have to recruit all the time

The Ohio State football program now has the second-best recruiting class in the country. They have been going back and forth with Notre Dame for that top spot. After losing their top cornerback for the class yesterday, they have fallen back to two.

This just underscores the new era of college football; coaches have to be recruiting all the time. They even have to keep recruiting their own players that are already on the roster. Coaches can come and swoop in to grab players from the transfer portal anytime they want now.

Even when a kid is committed to the program as a recruit, coaches have been poaching them for years. Now it’s more of an open secret what they can do. Coaches have to be on guard for the entire duration of their time on campus. Ryan Day knows how the game is played.

Day and the rest of his staff play this game too, let’s get this straight. All of the coaches across the country do this to everyone else too. It’s just a much bigger problem for the bigger schools like Ohio State. They get programs poaching the kids who aren’t happy with the playing time they’re getting.

It’s something that the Buckeyes have to deal with right now especially when they have such a good recruiting class. NIL money makes that even tougher now that it’s legal. You never know who could promise a six or seven-figure deal to steal a coveted recruit or current player.

The Ohio State football program is going to always have this issue. When you have as much success as they have had that’s going to happen. They are top dog and everyone else is trying to knock them off that mountain.
