Former Ohio State Football player showing well in training camp
By Ryan Stano
Every NFL team has training camp officially going on now. With that, plenty of former Ohio State football players are trying to get better before the season starts. One in particular has been getting some rave reviews early in training camp, which is good because this is a make-or-break season for him.
That player is Parris Campbell. Campbell was a second-round of the Indianapolis Colts back in 2019 after a stellar 2018 season with the Buckeyes. He was expected to be a big part of the Colts’ offense immediately, but things went wrong almost as soon as he got to Indy.
Injuries have been the story of Campbell’s NFL career so far. He has only played in 15 games in three seasons with the Colts. He has suffered a season-ending injury each year. This is his last chance to prove that he can stay healthy and help that team.
So far, it looks like Campbell has done just that. He has worked very hard to strengthen his body and show that he can be a difference-maker on the field. It’s still early in training camp, but he has shown some of the same things he did when he was with the Ohio State football program.
His speed, route-running, and his yards-after-the-catch ability are what have stood out so far this camp. Those are all things he did well with the Buckeyes. He’s still young at just 25 years old. If he has a good year this season, he could get a contract extension at the end of the year.
This is a big year for Campbell. The Colts are in a position to win now. They need another receiver to step up beside Michael Pittman Jr. If Campbell can be that guy, he can secure his future in the NFL.
