Ohio State Football gets first commit for 2025 class
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has been mainly focused on recruiting for the 2023 class recently. But the Buckeyes are always on the recruiting trail, no matter which class it is for. They now have just gotten their first commitment for the 2025 recruiting class.
That recruit is Jontae Gilbert, a cornerback from the state of Georiga. He stands at 6’1 and 175 pounds. He isn’t yet ranked because 247Sports hasn’t started ranking recruits for that yet. He gives the Buckeyes some depth at the cornerback position for the future.
There isn’t a ton of film out there on Gilbert yet, but he was clearly someone that Tim Walton and the rest of the defensive staff liked. They like what he can do on the field. The Buckeyes are looking to get better at every position on the defensive side of the ball.
We talked about how the defensive recruiting has been going super great for the class of 2023. Maybe this is something that can turn things around. Obviously, a good year in 2022 for the defense would help more than anything else. That would get recruits here.
NIL money thrown to players on defense would help them get here as well. We’ll see how the evolution of NIL helps defensive recruiting once everyone gets their minds around it. As far as Gilbert is concerned, he might be the first one in a good recruiting class for 2025.
Of course, 2025 is a long way away. He will continue to have to be recruited from now until he’s able to sign his letter of intent. That’s the nature of recruiting these days.
