Being right is a lot of fun, but sometimes being wrong can be fun as well. Now is one of those times. In an article I wrote the other day about the Ohio State football team’s recruitment of quarterback Brock Glenn, I said the longer he waits to announce his decision, the better it is for the Buckeyes. I was wrong. REALLY wrong, because Glenn has committed to the Buckeyes.

A lot of credit has to be given to OSU head coach Ryan Day and his quarterback’s coach, Corey Dennis. As late as two weeks ago, it was felt Glenn was a near lock to choose Florida State. Six of 247Sports’ recruiting experts predicted it would be the Seminoles.

The Buckeyes were trying to flip Austin Novosad from his commitment to Baylor. He nearly committed to Ohio State in June before Texas A&M, his parents’ alma mater, and then Notre Dame joined the race. I don’t doubt the more convoluted Novosad’s situation became, the harder Day and Dennis pursued Glenn. I also don’t doubt the Ohio State coaches feel they’ve fallen behind the others in Novosad’s recruitment. Going after Glenn makes a lot of sense The Buckeyes made up an awful lot of ground in a short period to get him.

Brock Glenn is 247’s seventeenth-rated quarterback in the 2023 recruiting cycle. The 6’2”, 195-pound native of Memphis fills a real need in this Ohio State recruiting class. The Buckeyes desperately needed to add a quality quarterback to this class.

With C.J. Stroud all but certain to leave after this season, that leaves just two other scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. Without this commitment, Day would have been forced to look to the transfer portal to fill the need for a third quarterback.

Now, I know how some Buckeye fans are. They’re going to start fussing about Glenn being ONLY ranked seventeenth. Well, gang, let’s look at it this way: the head coach who has produced two quarterbacks taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, and will likely have a third next spring, wants Glenn. If Ryan Day wants this guy, that’s good enough for me. 247Sports’ National Analyst Cooper Petagna has seen Glenn in person a few times. Here is what his scouting report says,

"“I think with him you’re getting more of a polished passer. You’re getting more of a high floor prospect of the QB position, plays within himself and understands his limitations. Very small in the short to intermediate part of the field. You’re going to get more of a chess player at the QB position. A guy that understands the nuances of the position. I think with a year or two to acclimate to whatever offensive system he chooses I think he’s a guy that can move the needle at the next level.”"

I like being wrong when it leads to some good recruiting news for the Ohio State football team. Considering the month they’ve just had in this area, some good news sure is nice. Hopefully, this creates some needed recruiting momentum.
