Why an Ohio State Football player will win the Heisman this year
By Alex Austin
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is another viable Heisman Trophy candidate for the Ohio State football team.
It is no secret that Brian Hartline has done a world-class job bringing in wide receiver talent to Ohio State. Last year saw two first-round picks playing alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Smith-Njigba shined throughout the season but turned heads during his record-breaking performance in the Rose Bowl. If he can continue that level of success as the number one target, Smith-Njigba could be looking at breaking records for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Smith-Njigba is going to have to be unstoppable for the majority of the year, but luckily he is playing in an offense that loves to score. With an improved defense, the offense could see even more time with the ball which would allow them to put up more points. The more touches that come to Smith-Njigba the more likely it will be that he brings home the Heisman.
The other thing playing into Smtih-Njigba’s favor is becoming the go-to guy. With his homerun ability, not sharing targets with Chris Olave or Garrett will only give more chances for Smith-Njigba to have performances as he did in the Rose Bowl. That game put the college football world on notice that this is a special talent, and now he has the opportunity to prove it.
While there is plenty of debate around which player will win it, the Ohio State Buckeyes have all the talent in the world to make sure that one of their players ends up with the Trophy at the end of the season.
