The Ohio State football team recently lost their top remaining tackle to Alabama a few days ago. it was a long shot to get him in the first place, but it was still a bummer. Apparently, they also lost a tackle to Texas that no one really knew about until just now.

Four-star tackle Payton Kirkland had been committed to the Ohio State football program silently since November, but didn’t tell anyone. This is according to him in his post-commitment interview with 247Sports. Instead, he committed to Texas without having visited the school a single time.

The Buckeyes do have two tackles in the 2023 recruiting class already, as well as the number one class in the entire country. Even so, it certainly would have been nice to add another four-star tackle to the fray. It would have further increased their ranking too.

It’s interesting that Kirkland decided to commit to Texas without having made a single visit to the school. He hasn’t been on campus yet, but apparently will later this summer. Ohio State would have been a great fit for him as well. It would’ve been nice have him in Columbus.

Ohio State still has plenty of room in their class. The Buckeyes will likely have a class of at least 25 signees. They have a chance to have the best recruiting class in school history, even without landing Kirkland. Although losing commits is not a great look.

We’ll see who all the Buckeyes are able to add by the time the class is full. There are a few guys you should keep your eye on to commit in the near future. Adding those guys, plus some others, will have everyone forget about losing a commit no one knew was committed here in the first place.
