The Ohio State football program has had plenty of great players over the years. Some of them have become coaches too. Mike Vrabel is the most recent example of that. He coached at Ohio State for a few years before moving on to the NFL level. Now he’s the head coach of the Titans.

Another former Buckeye has been getting into some coaching recently. He is actually one of the greatest quarterbacks in Ohio State football history. That former Buckeye is J.T. Barrett. Barrett was not able to have the NFL career that he desired, so he moved into coaching.

Barrett had to retire from football after he was signed by the Edmonton Elks earlier this year. He had an injury that forced him to miss the season and ultimately retired. Now, Barrett has a new gig as an offensive assistant with the Detroit Lions. He’s a coach now!

When Barrett was with the Buckeyes and leading the offense, he was always one of the smartest players on the field, no matter what team they were playing. He holds almost every career offensive record because of how smart he was. Now, he’s sharing that knowledge with other players.

It’s good to see Barrett get an opportunity like this. I think he could eventually be a great coach. This is the first step on his journey. Getting a foot in the door is a good start. I don’t think the Lions are going to be very good on offense this year, but he can still learn a lot from this opportunity.

We’ll be rooting for Barrett in his coaching journey wherever it leads. I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually becomes a head coach somewhere down the line. I think that highly of his football IQ.
