The Ohio State football team has had multiple players be on preseason award watchlists. All of them have been on the offensive side of the ball, which makes sense considering they will have the best offense in the country returning three valuable pieces.

One of those pieces is Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He has already been named to the Maxwell Award preseason watchlist and now he earns a second one. He has been named to the Biletnikoff Award preseason watchlist for the best receiver in the country.

This was an absolute no-brainer. We know that Smith-Njigba is either the best or second best receiver in the country. He should be one of the favorites to win this award after he played so well last year in his first season getting significant snaps.

Smith-Njigba led the Buckeyes in receiving yards last season as a sophomore. He should only be better as a junior this season. Even though he’ll be getting more attention than he did with Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson on the outside, he’s too good to be completely stopped.

I’d be surprised if JSN didn’t surpass his receiving total from a year ago. He should also get double-digit touchdowns for sure. He was just one touchdown shy of that mark a year ago. With C.J. Stroud having a full year under his belt, he should be in a better position to find JSN all season long.

There’s no reason why JSN shouldn’t be a finalist for this award once the season plays itself out. If he isn’t, that means that the Buckeyes have done something terribly wrong this season. I wouldn’t count on that. Expect Smith-Njibga to once again be the Ohio State football team’s best receiver.

The season is just under two months away! I can’t wait to watch JSN do his thing against Notre Dame.
