Ohio State Football has three players on Maxwell list
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is a lot of people’s favorite to come out of the Big Ten and play in the College Football Playoff. They have one of the country’s most talented offenses, and that’s the main force behind forecasting such expectations upon this team.
Nationally, the media thinks they are going to be pretty good too. In fact, the Buckeyes are the only team to have three players on the Maxwell Award for the best player in college football preseason watch list. No other program has more than two except Ohio State, which should tell you something.
Those three players are C.J. Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and TreVeyon Henderson. All three guys show up on the list because they are one of the best players at their position. For the Buckeyes to have all three of them is a testament to recruiting and development.
Stroud is either the best or second-best quarterback in the country (contrary to what PFF might have you think) and is also one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy. He finished last season on a great note, throwing for a Rose Bowl-record 573 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Three of those touchdowns were to JSN. He is also the best or second-best player at his position. He too set a Rose Bowl record with 15 catches for 347 yards to go along with those three touchdowns. JSN certainly deserves his spot on this list.
Henderson is the least accomplished of the three and was still amazing as a true freshman. Despite not starting early in the year, he still was able to put up 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 27 passes for 312 yards and four more touchdowns.
It just goes to show you how much talent this Ohio State football team has. If they don’t at least make the CFP, something is very wrong.
