Ohio State Football: Offensive line could mostly leave after 2022
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has some good players on the offensive line this year. They bring back three of their starting linemen from a year ago. It should be a line that has improved from last year and should be able to come together for a good run in 2022.
After 2022 though, that unit has some major question marks. Everyone could leave for the NFL if they want to once this season is over except for Donovan Jackson. That would leave the cupboard exceedingly bare for the Buckeyes heading into a season where they would also be breaking in a new starting quarterback.
I don’t think that everyone will leave. I think Luke Wypler will likely stay for another season. He isn’t a blue-chip prospect like some of the other players are. If he has a really good season though, he could end up being projected as a mid-round pick. That might be enough to entice him to leave.
I can’t recall a year in which the Ohio State football team had to replace pretty much their entire starting offensive line. As concerning as that is on its own, adding a new quarterback makes things even scarier. At least TreVeyon Henderson would be back in the backfield.
Ryan Day will want to get some snaps for the younger offensive linemen this season in games that are well in hand. Those blowout snaps will be key for those guys so that they feel comfortable in a game setting heading into next season. Ohio State doesn’t have any other options.
I wouldn’t think they would use the transfer portal to refill the depth chart though. They like who they have on the roster. It will be interesting to see how they develop those guys this season
