The Ohio State basketball team had a pretty good team back in 2021. They had E.J. Liddell and Duane Washington leading the offense. Even though both players were really good, the Buckeyes still were upset by 15-seeded Oral Roberts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

It’s been a rough week for both former Ohio State basketball players though. First, Liddell tore his ACL in a Summer League game and will likely miss the upcoming season. Now, Washington got some bad news of his own right before he was going to play more in Summer League.

Washington is no longer a member of the Indiana Pacers. He had signed a non-guaranteed contract at the end of last year and is now getting waived by the Pacers to create cap space so they can sign Deandre Ayton to a max contract. Washington is a cap casualty.

Unfortunately, this is what happens to a lot of players who were second-round picks. He now will have to find someone else to play for. There’s a good chance he spends most, if not all, of next season in the G-League. To be honest, that’s what he was expected to do last year.

Things changed and he got more playing time at the NBA level though. I think Washington can still be a decent NBA player. I like his potential as a heat-check guy off the bench. I watched him a lot when he was with Indiana and there’s something there.

It’ll be interesting to see where Washington does end up. Wherever he goes, I hope he gets to develop his game and become the best version of himself. He’s definitely good enough to play in the NBA and contribute to a good team if he improves his defense.
